The Kingdom of heaven is at hand..! Today we celebrate the feast of St. Barnabas, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit. His name itself means "son of encouragement," and truly, he lived up to it. When no one believed in Paul after his conversion, Barnabas stood by him. When the early Church needed unity and guidance, Barnabas was sent to strengthen the believers. He was not a man of big words, but of bold actions and deep love. He didn’t look for attention, he looked for souls to lift up. His whole life was a gift, freely received and freely given. That’s exactly what Jesus is telling the disciples in today’s Gospel: “As you go, proclaim the kingdom of heaven is at hand… Freely you have received, freely give.” This mission is not about building our name, but building God's kingdom. Like Barnabas, we are called to go, not to sit and wait. We are called to heal, not to judge. To raise others up, not to put them down. We are to give joy, peace, and hope, not carry complaints, fear, or pride. The Gospel reminds us not just what to do, but how to do it with simplicity, trust, and selflessness. So, what should we not do? Don’t go with a heavy heart. Don’t carry gold or expectations. Don’t go with conditions or calculations. Don’t go to control or to be praised. What should we do? Go like Barnabas with encouragement, with joy, and with a heart that trusts the Spirit. Go as if the Kingdom of God is already happening around us because it is. Let us go out today not just to preach, but to become the message. Like St. Barnabas, let us be remembered not for how much we said, but how much we lifted others up.
